Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS INWARD RIDE?

Inward Ride is the name I gave my ninety-seven day motorcycle road trip sabbatical, which took place between August and November of 2019. At 54 at the time, after a massive breakdown that changed the course of my life, I chose to go on this journey as a pilgrimage of sorts. It allowed me to understand and subsequently pursue a professional path in a helping career that I had been cultivating for decades. Inward Ride henceforth evolved into an umbrella name for the mentoring work that I offer.

WHAT ARE THE CONNECTION SERIES GROUPS?

I created The Connection Series in April of 2020, in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the goal of supporting and empowering individuals during these trying times.

The group meets weekly for one hour and forty-five minutes during seven weeks. It has a maximum of six people - plus myself. Some of the themes covered are intimacy, loneliness, creativity, resistance, career choices, feeling stuck, personal integrity, the importance of grieving and conscious relationships.

The work is experiential and pragmatic. In a safe and dynamic environment, I teach how to make life choices based on inner wisdom - rather than conditioning - , how to recognize and honor one’s deep needs and core values. The work is substantiated by scientific research and tried and true collective and personal experience. See the Testimonials page to learn about the experience of previous and current group members.

The Connection Series online group offering is the entryway into my mentoring work for new students.

ARE THERE OTHER GROUP OFFERINGS AFTER THE CONNECTION SERIES?

Yes. After taking The Connection Series – the first seven-session series offered –, students can continue with the same group in subsequent, seven-session series. If only less than four members of the group want to continue, they can choose to join another ongoing Inward Ride group.

DO I HAVE TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE TO PARTICIPATE?

No! Inward Ride is often associated with motorcycles because of the 2019 sabbatical (see “What is Inward Ride? above), as well as my passion for adventure motorcycling. Currently, Inward Ride groups take place on Zoom, and are open to anyone worldwide, sixteen years of age or older.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS PER GROUP?

Normally six. I always announce with each new group the maximum number of participants.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes. Although this work isn’t age-specific, it requires a certain level of maturity, self-awareness and commitment. Hence, the minimum age is sixteen. The youngest person to participate thus far in an Inward Ride group was 21.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE JOINING THE GROUPS?

Members are individuals with an interest in legitimate transformation over time. They are open and curious, and come from all walks of life. Ages have varied from 21 to 68. We've had participants from countries such as India, Panama, England, Samoa, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Brazil and the U.S., joining in from Europe, Asia and North America.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GROUPS THAT I CAN JOIN?

As a new student, there is only one group that you can join. It’s called The Connection Series. I offer new groups starting monthly, or every other month. After that initial seven-session series, you have the opportunity to continue with the group work in subsequent, seven-week series.

The second kind of group is only available to graduates of The Connection Series. Some participants have been in my groups since they were first offered, in April of 2020.

Beside the group work, you also have the option of doing individual mentoring work with me. Please contact me directly to schedule a talk to answer your questions in person, or to be notified about the next group offering.

CAN YOU TEACH A PRIVATE GROUP CREATED BY ME?

Yes, I can. If you want to create a private group with friends, colleagues, or family members, please contact me to discuss it.

DO YOU SEE CLIENTS INDIVIDUALLY AS WELL?

Yes. I see individual clients in one-hour sessions. Some people prefer to work individually rather than in a group setting. The basis of the mentoring work is the same, just the dynamic changes from group to solo.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SAMPLE THIS WORK WITH YOU?

Yes, it is. I am always open to a conversation by phone or zoom to answer any of your questions. If you decide to work with me, you can choose a five-session series or a ten-session series. Please call or email for pricing.

If you prefer to sample the work first, we can have our first one-hour session. If you find that this work isn't for you, there is no charge for the session. If you liked our time together and my suggestions for your life, the first session is applied toward your five- or ten-session series.

DO YOU ALSO OFFER WORKSHOPS?

I am in the process of creating themed workshops for new students, as wells as for ongoing group participants. Please email me at inwardride@gmail.com and I'll notifyou you when workshops become available.

WHY DO YOU CALL YOURSELF A MENTOR?

It took me a while to find a title that was suitable for the work I do. I teach life skills, emotional intelligence skills, skills for living with integrity and freedom. I base my work on twenty-five years of interdisciplinary studies (in Psychology, Practical Philosophy, Neuroscience, Mindfulness and Meditation, and Spirituality), and practices that have allowed me to overcome profound obstacles and limitations in my own life. A mentor models what he/she teaches. I model what I have tried and succeeded in. I use client’s examples and personal examples of success in turning obstacles into opportunities. The work is very intimate, based on vulnerability and wise self-disclosure. Students enjoy this teaching format, in which they learn how I overcome challenges, and also the challenges that I haven’t yet overcome and how I’m dealing with them. Hence, I model success while also modeling kindness and wise self-exploration while in the midst of a challenge.
